Subject: What ranks to use. Thu Apr 03, 2008 3:47 pm
What ranks should we use? We have had some ideas thought of and what one should we use? Rank 1 Pokemon Egg - 0 Posts Baby Pokemon - 50 Posts Basic Pokemon - 100 Posts Stage 1 Pokemon - 200 Posts Stage 2 Pokemon - 300 Posts Shiny Pokemon - 400 Posts Legendary Pokemon - 600 Posts
Those are my suggestions for the pokemon sprites used on the ranks, if this set is chosen. Thought it would be good to mix it up a bit.
I suggested a third "stage" and Starter Pokemon for the "stage" pokemon ranks, but it could really be anything. I just thought of how cool it was with the Pokemon Trainer in Brawl having Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard (which are all stage 1, 2, and 3 pokemon, respectively) so I thought it'd be cool if we did something like that. Of course it'd be even cooler if we did them from different types and generations. I don't know, just a thought.
Also, Charolette mentioned maybe having different rank images for male/female members. I don't know if/how you'd be able to do it, but I thought it was a good suggestion so I'm just throwing it back out on the table.

Hey those are some good suggestions. I don't think you can do them for male/female people on the forum. I thought of that to, actually I started with those on makeing the first set of ranks. (the ones we have now) But stopped when I realized there wasn't any way to make the users gender and number of posts you have make a rank. Ill check around more and see if there is a way to do it, but I'm not promising anything.

like i said on pokestadium, phpBB allows you to create usergroups with customizable rank icons, and it's no trouble to create a usergroup for, say, females only, which will have a separate set of icons based on default rank. it's possible that these might have to be manually toggled, but for a community this small in size, i'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to change people's usergroups every now and then.
in relation to the OP, i picked set 2, but i'd prefer the following edits:
reason being it's not that hard to get to most of the original ranks, and, as it's practically a fixed scale, you're going to have a bunch of legendary battlers running rampant in no time at all.
as the community grows, as i think you would like it to, these ranks should also increase exponentially in difficulty, as people will inevitably post more when there is more cumulative activity. ideally, very few people should be reaching the top rank.

Well most forums do have ranks, and most people who spam will do it regardless os whether there's a rank involved. Take me for example

I think we should go with Dragon's set, or the one Charlotte just posted. The third one or the original first set look horrible to me, sorry.

Gegis right, some people like to spam to get a special rank. But we can always lower the number of post someone has by delete that post. So even if they do spam, mods assigned to that forum and admins can delete that message and there rank would go down. Also if they delete there own message it will go down to. So no need to worry about that. And also for Charlotte, you can make user groups that include special people and they will have there special rank. But the people in that group that is a mod or admin. Would have there rank changed (so say if you were a admin you would still have admin powers, just it would say the user groups rank name there instead of admin) it's exactly what i did like to dragon or tocs. They still have there mod ability's, but there rank name is changed. If you want to set up a user group for you (and if we get some more users) your friends. Just tell me.

I agree with the thing about deleting posts. If people just spam to get posts for a rank, we can just get them some kind of post cap or something if they ignore any warnings they're given about spamming.
Also, iff you let Charolette Mod a specific forum, methinks it should be Multimedia. Something tells me she'd prefer that one
On an unrelated note, would it be possible for us to get more emoticons? I find that the current set lacks some of the ones I'd typically find myself using on other forums. For instance, I find a lack of generic happy ones without it being some kind of specific ridiculous face

I did find out how to change the smilys, but the problem is I don't have any smilys to put on there. If you or anyone could get me some im sure I could put them up. Maybe Johan would let us use the pokestadium ones?

Ah, I'm sure he wouldn't mind, especially since the forum's closing down. Johan's pretty generous about that kind of stuff anyway. It's just because he's leet cool

Well it looks like we have had a lot of different suggestions. I have changed the poll. It now has "Trainer Ranks", "Pokemon Ranks" or "Don't Care". Trainer Ranks being we use trainers in our ranks, Pokemon Ranks being we use Pokemon in them and Don't Care means you don't really care witch one. Ill wait till we have 6 votes (since that's all the members we have and I for one am not going to vote because I don't really mind what one it is). And after we figure out what kind of rank we are going to use, we will pick on the different kinds there are. I have put it so you can change your vote if you want.

I think we should still have special ranks for sp.members like artist (dragon) but have the pokemon ranks for posts.

That's what I was thinking. I was actually thinking of having regular users be pokemon, and have the special members trainers. But then I thought of Dragons smeargle. We would have to get rid of that in order to do that, and I wouldn't want to do that! Smeargle and Dragon are like! Like 2 pees in a pod!

Yes, I agree. I often find myself wandering around with a dazed expression painting random things on the sides of buildings with my tail...
But perhaps, for people with special ranks, they are allowed to choose what sprite they'd like for the image? I mean, if we're going to go through the trouble of making custom images and ranks, then we might as well see what pokemon or trainer they want on it. I don't think the rank sprites have to be one or the other for everyone, I think a healthy mix will work. As long as they're sprites from D/P, it should look good regardless

Yea, Im leting you guys pick your sprites and what color of background you want. Sometimes the name, depending on what it is. But maybe once we get more members (maybe around 40). We can see what the users want to have for the posts ranks.
Edit* Well it looks like we have all 6 votes, and it looks like we are useing Pokemon Ranks. We might change them to trainers later in time (so we don't get bored of the same ranks), then a little after that back to pomeon ones. But for now it looks like we are sticking with pokemon ones .
