| Ok here's my second evaluation of a pokemon. So today ill be looking at a great sweeper thats seen good battles in past generations, but how will it fit in with d/p's new physical and special move changes? Here's it statistics; - Spoiler:
screenshot from smogonAside from losing the elemental punch sweeper moveset, there isn't much of a change from 3gen, and with Focus Blast and Shadow Ball as viable moves, most every Alakazam is going to be the same. There isn't really that much variety of movesets but ill post two today. The first one, standard d/p set; - Spoiler:
Alakazam Item:Life Orb/Expert Belt Ability: Synchronize Nature: Timid (+Spd, -Atk) EVs: 4 HP, 252 Spd, 129 SpAtk
Moves: Psychic Shadow Ball Focus Blast/HP Fighting Charge Beam/Grass Knot
There isn't really much to say about this set, it's the basic sweeping set in d/p for alakazam. With Psychic as its main sweeping move and shadow ball to hit other psychics. Focus blast, is more preferred to me over hp fighting since its more powerful and is easier to get hold of, basic use is for dark pokemon and steels. Chargebeam is a great filler move since it raises the sp.att stat most of the time, and grass knot is good because i provides good type coverage.
The item choice also depends on the moveset, if you go with grass knot equip alakazam with expert belt but give him/her a life orb for boltbeam.
There are alternatives for the filler move, but sweeper Alakazam sets will undoubtedly include the first three, and vary the fourth slot with Recover, Calm Mind, Trick with Choice Specs, etc. I don't often go with recover since alakazam barely lasts whether or not it uses this hp reviving move.
Onto the second set, trickspecs; - Spoiler:
Alakazam Item:choicespecs ability:syncronize nature:timid/modest Ev's:4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Moves: ~ Trick ~ Psychic ~ Focus Blast ~ Grass Knot / Hidden Power Fire
With Choice Specs equipped, Alakazam will destroy almost anything that tries to switch in with Psychic or Focus Blast. If you are wondering why Focus Blast is so useful on Alakazam even though it only has 70% accuracy, it is because Weavile, Tyranitar, Snorlax, Blissey, etc. would be able to switch in with ease against Alakazam if it did not have it. The dual Psychic / Steel types are the best counter for this moveset, but Tricking Choice Specs onto them severely limits their versatility. Hidden Power Fire is an option for Steels as well, but you would be better off crippling one of them with Trick and using Grass Knot to stop Slowbro and Starmie. Spiritomb also counters this moveset pretty well. Celebi is not much of a threat because Tricking Choice Specs on it will basically make it worthless.
Ok i decided to post another moveset, its simial to the first so here it is; - Spoiler:
Alakazam (cm sweeper) Item:life orb Nature:modest/timid Ability:syncronize Ev's:4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
moves: ~ Calm Mind ~ Psychic ~ Focus Blast ~ Grass Knot
After one Calm Mind, a Timid Alakazam does 287-338 damage to a Metagross with Focus Blast and OHKOs a 4 HP / 0 Special Defense Tyranitar with Grass Knot despite the Sandstorm boost. This is not a Pokémon that will sweep a team right off the bat, though. You have to weaken your opponent a little bit first. An example of bringing in Alakazam for a late game sweep would be to let your opponent's Gengar kill something, bring in Alakazam, Calm Mind on the switch and cause pain.
And thats my evaluation on alakazam. | |
